The year 2005 began with a spring
characterized by a steadily rising temperature. Towards mid March the
temperature reached over 27°C, rare for that time of year. April was rainy
but variable until mid May, when the first wave of heat arrived, coming
from North Africa and reaching as high as 33°C. This situation and the
absence of rain went on for almost all of June, with a trend similar to
that of 2003. Towards mid June the heat was interrupted by a drop in
temperature and a few storms, followed again by temperature rises which
reached near record levels towards the end of June: about 35°C. July
offered more variability for the first two weeks, then a second wave of
African heat arrived, lasting till the end of the month.
